How to get your website listed on Google Places for Business

In today’s world it is becoming increasingly hard for business owners to advertise their business to potential customers. Luckily there is a solution and it’s called Google Places for Business. Google Places is a website that is used to connect business owners with potential customers, both online and in person. Many have heard of this helpful site, but few know how to get his/her website listed.

There are several steps that need to be followed to list a business on Google Places. Before you get started though, there are few things to remember. Google Places is completely free; however, 1) it is currently only available for businesses in certain countries, 2) every business listing must have a mailing address, 3) only business owners or authorized representatives can verify a business listing, and 4) there can only be one listing per physical location. A total of 100 single listings can be added; if there are more than 10 then the listings have to be added as a bulk load.

When listing a business, the following should be provided when possible: the business name, business location, the phone number of the business, and a website that represents the business. At least one category must also be selected from the suggestions given; other custom attributes and descriptions may also be added.

The first step in creating a listing is visiting the Google Places website. Before creating you listing, you are asked to read the Google Places quality guidelines and Local Listings content policy. Afterwards, you are asked to sign-in with your Google Account, but if you don’t already have one, you are asked to sign-up for one. Once signed-in, visit the Google Places home page and click Add new business.

Search your business by the phone number on the “Find your business” tab to find any prior information Google has on your business. Review the search results to see if one of the descriptions fits your business; if not, click Add a new listing. At this section, you are asked to fill out your business’ basic information, which includes: the company/organization, address (required), phone number (required), and website. Once you have done this, click Next.

After clicking the Next button, you will have the option to fill out the following information about your business: categories, hours of operation, payment options, photos, videos, and/or additional details. Up to 10 photos and 5 videos can be added to the listing. The listing can be previewed on the right side of your screen, and when you are satisfied, click the Submit button at the bottom of the page. You may then choose how to verify your listing and click Finish.
